Based on the documents and pieces brought together in the exhibition—largely drawn from the notarial records collection of the Provincial Historical Archive and from the heritage of brotherhoods and parishes in Seville—the profound historical and social roots that these religious manifestations have had in the popular culture of Seville are revealed. All of this allows for an approach to the phenomenon of popular religiosity, understood as the set of practices, devotions, and expressions of faith that form part of the cultural life of a community.
